Welcome – West Susitna Road Access Project

The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) has launched a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process to prepare an environmental assessment for the West Susitna Access Road (WestSu Access) project. The first step in that process identifies the “scope” of issues that need to be studied.

DOT&PF assumed the responsibilities of the Federal Highway Administration under Section 327 of amended Chapter 3 of Title 23, United States Code (23 U.S.C. 327) for WestSu Access and sought public, agency, and tribal comments during a 30-day a public scoping period, July 23 through August 23, 2024. While the public comment period for the project’s scoping phase is now closed; comments are welcome at any time. There will be another formal public comment period for the Project’s draft Environmental Assessment document, anticipated in early 2025.

Proposed Action

TransportationX
The TransportationX program involves new ways of working that are outcome focused, versus process focused, and emphasize community teaming, agile project management processes, and new ways of resourcing to achieve success. These efforts contribute to our vision of organizational excellence, and investment areas of Safety, State of Good Repair, Economic Vitality, Resiliency, and Sustainable Transportation. The West Susitna Road Access Project has been designated as an Alaska DOT&PF TransportationX project.
