Welcome – West Susitna Road Access Project

The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) has launched a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process to prepare an environmental assessment for the West Susitna Access Road (WestSu Access) project. The first step in that process helps “scope” the issues that need to be studied.  The DOT&PF has assumed the responsibilities of the Federal Highway Administration under Section 327 of amended Chapter 3 of Title 23, United States Code (23 U.S.C. 327), and is soliciting scoping comments and information on a proposal to construct the West Susitna Access Road Project (WestSu Access). DOT&PF accepted public scoping comments July 23 through August 23, 2024.

The public comment period for scoping is now closed; you are still welcome to provide input, but your comments will not be included as an official part of the scoping record. There will be another public comment period for WestSu Access with release of the draft Environmental Assessment, anticipated in early 2025.

Proposed Action

TransportationX
The TransportationX program involves new ways of working that are outcome focused, versus process focused, and emphasize community teaming, agile project management processes, and new ways of resourcing to achieve success. These efforts contribute to our vision of organizational excellence, and investment areas of Safety, State of Good Repair, Economic Vitality, Resiliency, and Sustainable Transportation. The West Susitna Road Access Project has been designated as an Alaska DOT&PF TransportationX project.
