DOT&PF Accepting Scoping Comments
DOT&PF has launched a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process to prepare an environmental assessment. The first step in that process helps to “scope” the issues needing to be studied. DOT&PF will be accepting public scoping comments between July 23-August 23, 2024.

From July 23 through August 23, 2024, the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is seeking public input on the proposed West Susitna Access Road (WestSu Access) project, a roughly 22-mile road to improve access to and unlock the potential of six million acres of undeveloped land in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. The road would connect to the existing road system and open up the area for recreation, tourism, and potential future development. This initiative aligns with Alaska’s Constitution, which champions infrastructure development to maximize land use and economic opportunities for all.
DOT&PF is beginning the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process for WestSu Access. We encourage you to share what you like as well as any concerns or issues related to the proposed action, the purpose and need for the project, and any alternatives you think should be examined.
Proposed Action
TransportationX
The TransportationX program involves new ways of working that are outcome focused, versus process focused, and emphasize community teaming, agile project management processes, and new ways of resourcing to achieve success. These efforts contribute to our vision of organizational excellence, and investment areas of Safety, State of Good Repair, Economic Vitality, Resiliency, and Sustainable Transportation. The West Susitna Road Access Project has been designated as an Alaska DOT&PF TransportationX project.
